About the Design 3DProf Cutting Speed & ISO Tolerance Calculator
This web application is a professional shop-floor engineering tool built for machinists, CNC programmers, and manufacturing engineers.
How the Cutting Speed Calculator Works
The application processes technical inputs to output exact manufacturing variables based on standard mechanical engineering formulas:
- Cutting Speed (Vc) Calculation: Utilizes the formula Vc = (π * d * n) / 1000, where d represents the cutting tool diameter in millimeters and n represents the spindle speed in RPM.
It determines the linear speed at which the tool moves through the material.
- Spindle Speed (RPM / n) Calculation: Calculates the rotational speed of the machine spindle using n = (Vc * 1000) / (π * d), allowing users to input targeted surface feet or meters per minute according to material
manufacturer specifications.
- Feed Rate (Vf) Calculation: Determines linear table feed speed via Vf = n * z * fz, where z is the number of cutting tool flutes/edges and fz is the feed per tooth (chip load) in
millimeters.
- ISO Tolerance & Fit Lookup (Tolerance Extra): Integrates standard ISO 286 shaft and hole fit data. Users select specific metric nominal sizes alongside tolerance classes (e.g., H7, g6, m6) to output upper/lower limit deviations,
fundamental deviations, and fit types (clearance, transition, or interference fits).
Supported Materials & Machine Workflows
The calculation algorithms adapt toolpath metrics for varied industrial materials, including hardened tool steels (up to 60+ HRC), stainless steels, aluminum alloys, titanium, brass, and structural polymers. Optimized for tooling parameters matching
Heidenhain, Siemens Sinumerik 840D, and Fanuc multi-axis setups.
